Most of our owners do not describe ownership as a financial decision first. They describe it as a scheduling decision. The ability to be at the school performance, to take the call when it matters, to decide that this Thursday will look different from last Thursday. The business did not give them more hours. It gave them the authority over which hours were theirs. That distinction turns out to be significant. There is also what happens to a family when the work is visible and close to home. Children who grow up watching a parent run something with care and intention develop a different relationship to work than children who watch a parent disappear into a commute. Some of our owners describe bringing their kids into the gym on a Saturday morning and showing them what a well-run operation looks like from the inside. That is not a side benefit. For a lot of them, it is the whole point of having built it. Legacy is a complicated word.
